Since its debut in 1997, Naruto has become one of the most successful manga franchises of all time. The manga tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who dreams of becoming the next Hokage— the strongest ninja— and the leader of his village. The manga was adapted into an anime series from 2002-2007, and was followed by Naruto Shippuden from 2007-2017.

Naruto himself is regarded as one of the most powerful shonen protagonists, and for good reason. As he was born, he became a Jinchūriki, the host of the nine-tailed fox Kurama. He eventually became known as the Hero of the Hidden Leaf and achieved his goal of being the Seventh Hokage, but he and his friends had to face many trails and adventures beforehand, including some that had to come in feature-length movie form.

The first Naruto movie, Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, was released in Japan on August 21st, 2004, and takes place after episode 101 of the series. Naruto and his friends, Team 7 members Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno are given a mission by their sensei, Kakashi Hataki, to protect the famous actress Yukie from being captured. It"s then revealed that Yukie is secretly Princess Koyuki Kazahana from an island known as the Land of Snow.

The second Naruto movie, Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel, was released on August 6th 2005 in Japan, and follows episode 160.

Team 7 is tasked with protecting the Gelel Stone, a powerful mineral that can grant its user regenerative abilities and slow down aging. The powers of the stone were once controlled by a clan, but wars over its power led them to extinction.

Naruto The Movie 3: Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom was released in Japan on August 5th 2006, and takes place after Naruto episode 196. Team 7 and Rock Lee are tasked with protecting Michiru, prince of the Land of the Moon, and his son Hikaru Tsuki. The team fought against Ishidate, a mercenary hired by the minister Shabadaba to kill the prince and his son.

8 Naruto Shippuden The Movie

The first Naruto Shippuden film was released in Japan on August 4th 2007, and follows episode 32 of that series. The plot revolves around Naruto facing a prediction of his death at the hands of a monster.

When the spirit of the demon Mōryō threatens to destroy the world, Team 7 is sent to protect Sion, a priestess who would be able to seal Mōryō"s spirit away again and save the world.

Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds was released in Japan on August 2nd 2008, and follows episode 71. After enemy ninjas from the Land of the Sky attack the Hidden Leaf Village as revenge for a previous attack during the 2nd Great Ninja World War, a boy named Amaru from another destroyed village comes to warn them. Naruto, Sakura, and Hinata protect the boy while trying to figure out why his village was destroyed.

6 The Will Of Fire

Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire was released on August 1st 2009, and follows episode 121. The plot revolves around concerns of the potential outbreak of a Fourth Great Ninja World War when the four ninjas who guard the Hidden Villages of Rock, Cloud, Mist, and Sand go missing.

The team fights against Hiruko, a ninja who abandoned the Leaf Village and wants to conquer the world after plunging it into war.

Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Lost Tower was released in Japan on July 31 2010 and follows episode 143. After Team 7 is assigned on a mission to capture a missing ninja named Mukade, Naruto and Yamato are sent 20 years into the past. The film ends with the groups memories of the experienced being erased, so it ends up having very little influence on the main storyline of the franchise.

4 Blood Prison

Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Blood Prison was released in Japan on July 27th 2011, and takes place after episode 196. The movie opens with Naruto being falsely arrested for supposedly attacking the Fourth Raikage.

He is placed in Hōzuki Castle, a criminal containment facility known as the "Blood Prison". Naruto"s fox chakra is limited after the prison head Mui places the Sky Prison Control seal on Naruto, stifling his powers.

Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie was released in Japan on July 25th 2012, and takes place after episode 251. The movie is similar to a Marvel What If? storyline, as Naruto and Sakura are transported into an alternate reality by Tobi using Limited Tsukuyomi. Fans get to see what the story would be like if Naruto"s parents were still alive, Sasuke never left the Hidden Leaf village, and Sakura was an orphan instead of Naruto.

2 The Last

The Last: Naruto the Movie the last movie with Naruto as the protagonist— was released on December 6th 2014, and takes place after episode 493. It tales place two years after the Fourth Ninja World War, and opens with the moon heading to collide with the Earth, caused by Toneri Otsutsuki, a descendant of the Sage of Six Paths" twin brother Hamura Otsutsuki.

Toneri intends to kidnap Hinata, but accidentally kidnaps her sister Hanabi instead. The movie ends with Hanata and Naruto getting married and starting a family with their children Boruto and Himawari.

Boruto: Naruto the Movie was released on August 7th 2015, and takes place before the Naruto sequel series Boruto: Naruto Next Generations which focuses on Naruto and Hinata"s son training to become a ninja.

Boruto forms a team with Sarada, the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura, and Mitsuki, the son of the villain Orochimaru. After Naruto sacrifices himself to stop two villains after the Nine-Tailed spirit inside his body, Sasuke and Boruto travel to another dimension to rescue Naruto.
