Starbucks are everywhere in major cities - seemingly on every corner, right? It"s no secret most Americans, and especially those in metropolitan areas, need their Starbucks. There"s something about that green straw that makes people go bananas. Or maybe it"s the tea? Who knows.

New York city is no exception however the specialty coffee scene is getting bigger and bigger - take that SBUX. If you"re in NYC right now, chances are your most likely within skipping distance to a location. Before we get in to how many Starbucks locations there are in NYC alone, lets take a look at the size of this concrete jungle.

Amazing NYC Stats

Home to 8.5 million peopleLand area - 305 square milesLargest city in the United StatesSplit into 6 different boroughs Largest borough by size - Queens (109 square miles)Larges borough by population - Manhattan (2.7 million people)Over 60 million visitors (both foreign and domestic) per year!

So, How Many Are There?

The most accurate date we could find pointed to over 360 Starbucks locations in the entire city of New York. This includes are boroughs although it"s Manhattan that deserves some further analysis - after all, this is where most New Yorkers live and work.

CUNY Baruch College student Aleksey Bilogur has put together a very impressive map to go along with some staggering NYC Starbucks statistics to show you. He posted it on Reddit and got some immediate attention. He wanted to figure out how far any given person is on average to a Starbucks when you"re in Manhattan. To do this, he compiled of list of 2,000 random Starbucks locations, mapped them and ran some numbers. He found out that if you were to be dropped in Manhattan at some random point, you"d most likely be, on average, 1,335 feet away from a Starbucks.

That"s crazy, right?

If you"re a New Yorker and need daily doses of caffeine, this is great news for you as it shows how close you probably are. Being based in Chicago, I thought we had a ton of Starbucks but this is a massive eye-opener. Combine the close proximity with all the other local cafés and you"re most likely only steps from your next honey bee latte - or whatever it is you prefer!
