I have had an issue with loss of power when accelerating and even my car dying. The OBD light is on. I just received a quote from a service station to replace the crankshaft sensor and get a tune up. They want to charge me 370.00 to do this. Is this repair easy to do on my own and is this amount a reasonable amount to pay for the problem I am having. They also suggest fuel injection and carb flush and air filter replacement.

I cannot find it, I watched a video already and it is not where it should be. I have removed the motor mount already.
Good afternoon, The sensor is under the front cover for the timing belt. The cover must be removed to gain access.Roy
Hello, I'm Danny.I've attached a picture below of its location. Here is a tutorial showing what's involved for its replacement:https://www.mmsanotherstage2019.com/articles/crankshaft-angle-sensor-replacementUnfortunately, yours is buried under the front engine covers and a lot needs to be removed to gain access.Hope this helps and thanks for using mmsanotherstage2019.com.Danny-
If it is a 2.4L it is on the right side of the front of the engine block. I only have a schematic of the 2.7L which I have attached. It is on opposite side.
Hello, I'm Danny. It is located right above the engines actual crankshaft. The accessories and covers on the front of the engine will have to be removed to gain access. Here is a basic tutorial showing what's involved for the replacement:https://www.mmsanotherstage2019.com/articles/crankshaft-angle-sensor-replacementI've attached a picture below of your cars sensor location.Hope this helps and thanks for using mmsanotherstage2019.com.Danny-
Would like details on where the crankshaft position sensor is located on a 99 dodge stratus with the 2.4l 4cyl?
Look on the back of the engine block, near the middle or slightly to the passenger side, about halfway between the lip of the oil pan and the cylinder head gasket. I'm doing this from memory. If you don't find it there, you'll have to tell me if it's a single or dual camshaft engine. The sensor will have three wires in its plug. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
It"s a dual overhead cam. I"ve heard anywhere from between the oil filter and the alternator to behind the timing cover. Just would like to know for sure to make this as painless as possible. Thanks for the information. Much needed!
Hello, The engine crankshaft sensor is located down on the block here is a guide to help you see what you are in for when changing the sensor out. https://www.mmsanotherstage2019.com/articles/crankshaft-angle-sensor-replacementHere are both locations for the 4 and 6 cylinders. Check out the diagrams (Below)Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.Cheers, Roy
I just installed a crankshaft position sensor on my car because it wouldn"t start and there was no spark going to the coil pack so I thought it had to be the crank sensor. Thats what sends the spark to the coil. Well I installed it and it worked for a couple days but there was like a slight ticking noise when I accelerated. It finally broke down. I think maybe I installed it incorrectly or something. Please help. Is there a specific way to install these? Im only 17 so I haven"t really learned everything about the cars yet. I just started working on my own car.

Hello pedalmonkey120343 Yes, there is a specific way to install it, but is not complicated. The crankshaft position sensor should be adjustable, which is identifiable by the presence of an elongated mounting hole on the sensor itself. A new spacer must be mounted on the face before installation. However, if a new crankshaft position sensor is being installed, confirm that a paper spacer is already present.

install the sensor into the transaxle and push down until it contacts the flexplate. Hold the sensor in position and install the mounting screw. Tighten the sensor mounting screw to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm). Attach the crankshaft position sensor"s electrical connector. Attach the electrical connector to the heater tube bracket. If removed, install the speed control servo unit back into position and tighten the mounting nuts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
